compaq nc 6230
Microsoft Windows XP

compaq nc6230 bios password, taking out battery doesn't work, it doesn't provide any special code either. I set the bios password years ago and gave it to my mom, she got a new apple based laptop and gave me back this one. It got a virus and generated a windows password which I cannot get passed and just decided to reinstall the OS. Evidently I had disabled all forms of boot up except the hard disk (stupid I know) I don't know why I did this. Anyway, how can I get pass a forgotten bios password on this system?

Removing the CMOS battery does nothing to reset any passwords on a laptop.

I'm really sorry that we can not help you with this, but Community policy prohibits us from assisting you in any way with bypassing or resetting passwords.

For BIOS password resets, read this HP thread: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06368824.

If you are not prepared to spend the money to get HP to replace the motherboard for BIOS password resets, you could take the PC to a local repair facility to see if they can do it for you -- but we are unable to assist in that.

For Admin password resets, you have to contact your regional HP Customer Support location directly for assistance.

Well, I am assuming it's a case of if the laptop were stolen is why they can't help me on the bios pw I forgot. I bought this off ebay several years ago with all the original recovery and OS disk unopened. It didn't have a bios pw on it until I put one on. IDK why everyone else's hp (compaq) seems to generate a special code that allows them to pay X amount of dollars to bypass or delete the password. I hav about had it with this laptop...I was trying to upgrade it for a friend when a random virus put a windows password on it...I just can't get anywhere with this hp...maybe that's why I prefer my Vaio, never ever any issues.. thanks for responding and I will check out your link.

I checked out your link, Ok so they are basically saying I have to buy a new mobo? The laptops not worth it but it has good components and especially for my friend who would love one. The battery is still good and the laptop will stay on for 1 hour 30 minutes on battery power. I use to actually do IT work at Kirkwood ski resort in California (I'm in Tahoe) anyway this may make me look stupid, but what if i replace to bios chip?

I checked out the 2nd link and it was in what looks like Russian to me, sorry my family is from Finland...lol! Thanks for your help!
