i want to update my bios however when I attempt to run update the system asks for bios administer password.... I have no clue what the default oem password would be?

i tried just doing it with my bios access password, but no luck... the system wont  accept it, and just asks for the bios admin password again.

please advise.

iPS- I purchased the laptop from a pawn shop so no owners manual or other helpful booklets were included with my purchase.... so any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

You will need to Contact HP Business support - they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

You can contact HP Business Support in your country via

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

or

https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

Just to note, don't try removing the rtc battery.  It won't remove the password, but it will reset the clock - as smc files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the smc will cause it to fail.

You're welcome :generic:

I'd use the first link in my previous post and get a telephone number so you can contact HP directly - you need to ask for a smc file to remove the bios admin password.  The sort of information they will require is the uuid, serial number etc ( this can usually be found by tapping F1 at boot ), but they will be able to explain what you need to do.  I would mention that you have tried removing the rtc battery.
