I pressed restart windows and update. I didn't update for a long time. so I left it to update. after some time I got back and I saw a black screen. I pressed on the "power on" button, and then I saw this message: "Boot Device Not Found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk (3F0)". When I tried the Hard drive check in System Diagnostics, it said "No hard drive installed. Please check that the power and data cables are connected properly."
I've tried restoring the BIOS default settings and that didn't seem to work.
I've tried to boot from a USB stick where I had windows on, and windows also didn't recognized the hard drive.
what to do?

Hi @Bomer107
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Notebook 15-dw1002nj is experiencing a Hard Disk 3F0 error, which typically means the BIOS isn't detecting the hard drive. Since you've already tried restoring BIOS defaults and booting from a USB, let's go through a few more troubleshooting steps.
Step 1: Check BIOS Boot Order
- Turn off your laptop.
- Press the power button, then immediately start pressing F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to the Boot Options section.
- Ensure that OS Boot Manager or your hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
- Save changes and exit.
Step 2: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn off your laptop.
- Press the power button, then immediately start pressing F2 repeatedly to enter HP Diagnostics.
- Run a Quick Storage Test to check if the hard drive is detected.
- If the test fails or says "No hard drive installed," proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Reseat the Hard Drive
If your laptop isn't detecting the hard drive, it might be loose or disconnected.
- Turn off your laptop and unplug it.
- Remove the battery (if removable).
- Open the back panel and locate the hard drive.
- Disconnect and reconnect the hard drive securely.
- Close the panel, reinsert the battery, and turn on the laptop.
Step 4: Disable Secure Boot & Enable Legacy Mode
- Enter BIOS by pressing F10 at startup.
- Navigate to Security and disable Secure Boot.
- Go to Advanced Settings and enable Legacy Boot Mode.
- Save changes and restart.
Step 5: Try Booting from a Windows Installation USB
- Insert your Windows USB installation media.
- Turn on the laptop and press F9 to open the boot menu.
- Select USB Drive and attempt to reinstall Windows.
- If Windows still doesn’t detect the hard drive, it may be failing.
Step 6: Check for Physical Hard Drive Failure
If none of the above steps work, your hard drive may be faulty. You can:
- Try connecting the hard drive to another PC using a USB-to-SATA adapter.
- If the drive is detected, back up your data and consider replacing it.
- If the drive is not detected, it may need to be replaced.
