Hi @jullsew23, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your function keys have been switched to require the Fn key for volume control. Here are a couple of ways to revert this:

Method 1: Using the Fn Lock Key

  1. Locate the Fn Lock key: This key might have a lock icon and the letters "Fn" on it. It could be combined with another key, like Esc or Shift.
  2. Activate Fn Lock: Press and hold the Fn key, then press the Fn Lock key. Release both keys. This should toggle the function keys back to their default behavior

Method 2: Changing BIOS Settings

  1. Enter BIOS/UEFI:
    • Restart your computer.
    • During the boot process, press the key to enter BIOS (usually F1, F2, F10, or Del).
  2. Change Function Key Behavior:
    • Look for an option related to function keys or action keys mode.
    • Change the setting to make the function keys behave as standard function keys without needing to press Fn

Method 3: Windows Mobility Center

  1. Open Windows Mobility Center:
    • Press Windows + X and select "Mobility Center".
  2. Adjust Function Key Row:
    • Look for an option to change the function key row behavior to "Function key" instead of "Multimedia key"

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
