Hi @justaaccount,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your laptop. Though it's critical to keep your device updated, there can be situations where you may need to disable specific updates that could potentially cause more harm than good.

Here's a general approach to turning off specific updates like BIOS and firmware updates on HP laptops:

Disabling Specific Updates in Windows

Using Device Manager:

  • Right-click the Start button and choose "Device Manager."
  • Go to "Firmware" or "System Devices" to find devices related to BIOS and firmware.
  • Right-click on the device and choose "Properties."
  • Under the "Driver" tab, click "Roll Back Driver" if available, or "Disable Device" to prevent the device from updating.

Using Windows Update Settings:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update."
  • Click "Advanced options."
  • Here, you can pause updates for a set time. However, this won't allow you to choose specific updates to pause.

Using Group Policy Editor (Windows Pro and Higher):

  • Press Windows + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update.
  • Set up policies to disable automatic updates. Note: This is a broader setting and will affect all updates.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
