Microsoft Windows 11

The laptop don't turn on. It was working perfectly, suddenly installed a type c multi port and the computer shut off. When hit the power button the power light bright for some seconds and goes blind. Opened the computer, clean the fan and closed and still nothing happen, did the UN-connect battery and tried to power only with the AC adapter, and still don't turn on. Did the recommended 15 seconds F6/power button, but still do not turn on. Used another AC charger from another HP laptop and still nothing happen.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi @HR43,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, but your HP 15 laptop still won't power on. Since the issue started after connecting a Type-C multi-port adapter, it could be related to that connection, potentially causing a short circuit or hardware issue.

Here are a few additional steps you can try:

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery if possible.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter (without the battery) and try to turn on the laptop.

Check for Internal Components

  • RAM: If you're comfortable with opening the laptop, try reseating the RAM sticks. Sometimes, reseating or replacing the RAM can resolve power issues.
  • CMOS Battery: Remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes to reset the BIOS. Afterward, reinsert the battery and try powering on the laptop.

External Monitor Test

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or VGA to rule out a display issue. If the external monitor shows something, your laptop's display might be the issue.

Disconnect Peripherals

  • Disconnect any external devices, including the Type-C multi-port adapter, USB drives, or any other peripherals, and try turning on the laptop.

Inspect the Power Jack

  • Check if the power jack (where you connect the charger) is loose or damaged. A faulty power jack could prevent the laptop from charging or turning on.

Check for Beep Codes or LEDs

  • When you try to power it on, listen for any beeps or check for any LED indicators (like Caps Lock blinking). These could give clues about what might be wrong.

Test with a Different Charger Again

  • Even though you tried another charger, make sure it's compatible with your specific HP 15 model. Some chargers, even from the same brand, might not provide the correct wattage.

BIOS Recovery

  • Try to recover the BIOS if you suspect it might be corrupted. Usually, HP laptops have a key combination (like Win + B or Win + V) that can be pressed while holding the power button to initiate a BIOS recovery process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
