I picked up an old hp 255 g6 notebook for my child and found the the function keys don't work the way he wants. I tried going into the bios to change the setting but see there is a password on the bios. After a few failed attempts it locked me out with the code i74499454. Can you please help me get into the bios? Thanks so much.

BIOS (and Power) passwords are encoded into the firmware of the motherboard and we have no access of any kind to that. Changing such a password requires completely replacing the motherboard with a new one that does NOT have a password encoded into the firmware -- and that usually costs a LOT more than simply replacing the computer.
I wish we could help you -- but we're not allowed to, since we have no way from here to verify ownership of any computer.
