hi everybody.
I had to replace the brocken disk in my laptop (15-bs521nl) and then I started to re-install windows 10.
As soon as I finished to install the OS I updated software and bios from HP site.
After bios (from windows) update my laptop restarted and started to install new bios version, then it reboots and now I have only a black screen without nothing more. my pc is completely blocked. I can hear the fan but nothing more.
I tried win + b and win + v key combination as found in some threads but screen remain black !
Can anyone help please??
Thank you

Hi @Mamba74,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you may be experiencing a firmware or BIOS issue with your HP laptop. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.
- Hard Reset: Sometimes, performing a hard reset can resolve issues with black screens. To do this, disconnect all external devices and peripherals from your laptop, including the power adapter. Then, remove the battery (if it's removable) and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds. After that, reinsert the battery (if applicable), plug in the power adapter, and try turning on your laptop again.
- BIOS Recovery: Since you've already tried the Win + B or Win + V key combinations without success, you may want to try a different method for BIOS recovery. HP laptops often have a BIOS recovery feature where you can create a BIOS recovery USB flash drive and use it to restore the BIOS. You can usually find instructions for this process on the HP support website specific to your laptop model.
Keep in mind that performing a BIOS update carries some level of risk, and it's essential to follow the HP instructions carefully to minimize the chances of issues like the one you're experiencing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

First of all thank you for the response. Unfortunately I ended up in the hospital for several days and I was not able to answer in short time 😞
I tryed the hard reset with no success and already created the USB BIOS recovery as described in the HP support site, but it seems that USB is not readed when I power on the laptop with usb in.
One thing I noticed is that when I power on the laptop the fan start running for only a couple of seconds and then it stops.
After 3-5 seconds it restart running (nothing elsa happen) .I do not know if it can help.
btw, now that I remember, I also opened the laptop, changed the HD, unplugged the ram and plugged it again with no lucky ....
I anyway suppose that there is way for reviving my pc because it seems rnning somehow behind that black screen!!!
hopefully you have another hits to suggest ...
thank you

I wonder if is there a procedure to rewrite BIOS somehow, maybe with external tools? do someone have experience on this?
I cannot believe the laptop is definitively dead ....
Thank you

Hi @Mamba74,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop after updating the BIOS.
Follow the below steps to fix the issue.
-Perform a power drain on your PC.
1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.
2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.
5) Power on the PC and check if it boots into Windows now.
-If the issue still persists, update the BIOS again for your PC by clicking on the link.
Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.
Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.
Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Hi Irwin6.
what you suggested was already tried at the beginning of the thread....
No way to access to BIOS or reset it via USB key.
It is not a problem of "windows does not start" but the PC itself does not start probably due to BIOS failure (altready tried to remove RAM too)
