Hello, my laptop keeps restarting every time its unplugged. The interval between the random restarts depends; if i restart a couple times after the random restart the interval increases.

Hi @Asparangus,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your Victus By HP gaming laptop keeps restarting every time it's unplugged, it can be frustrating and indicate a potential issue. There are several possible reasons for this problem, and I'll provide some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and resolve the issue.

  1. Power Settings:

    • Check your laptop's power settings. It's possible that the laptop is set to restart when it switches from a plugged-in power source to battery power. To adjust this, go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" (or "Settings" > "System" > "Power & Sleep" in Windows 10 or 11). Make sure that the settings for "On battery" are configured correctly.
  2. Battery Issues:

    • Your laptop's battery might be malfunctioning or not holding a charge. Try calibrating the battery, if possible. To do this, fully charge the laptop while it's plugged in, and then unplug it and let it discharge completely. Recharge it and see if this resolves the issue.
  3. Overheating:

    • Overheating can cause a laptop to restart. Make sure your laptop is not overheating when it's running on battery power. Ensure the cooling fans and vents are clean and unobstructed. You can use software tools to monitor the temperature of your CPU and GPU.
  4. Software Issues:

    • Malware or software conflicts can also lead to unexpected restarts. Run a full system scan with reputable antivirus software to ensure your laptop is free from malware. Additionally, consider updating or rolling back your GPU drivers, as faulty graphics drivers can cause instability.
  5. Windows Updates:

    • Make sure your operating system is up to date. Sometimes, Windows updates can address bugs or stability issues.
  6. Hardware Issues:

    • If the issue persists, it might be a hardware problem. Faulty RAM or other components can cause random restarts. You might want to run a memory test using tools like Windows Memory Diagnostic or MemTest86 to check for RAM issues.
  7. Power Adapter:

    • Ensure your laptop's power adapter is functioning correctly. A damaged or incompatible charger can cause instability.
  8. BIOS/UEFI Update:

    • Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop from HP's official website. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve hardware-related issues.

Remember to back up your important data before attempting any troubleshooting steps, as there's always a slight risk of data loss when dealing with computer issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
