Hi @venomdai,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your HP Laptop 15s. A laptop that lags so much can be incredibly frustrating, especially when it hinders basic tasks like watching videos or using a browser. Here are some steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.
Check Specifications
- Processor & RAM: Verify the processor type and amount of RAM in the laptop. For basic tasks, at least 4GB RAM is necessary, but 8GB is preferable.
- Storage Type: If it has an HDD, consider upgrading to an SSD for a significant speed boost.
- You can check this by right-clicking on This PC > Properties or through Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) under the Performance tab.
System Optimization
- Startup Programs: Disable unnecessary startup programs.
- Open Task Manager > Go to the Startup tab > Disable programs with high impact.
- Free Up Space: Ensure the storage isn’t full (keep at least 20% free).
- Use Disk Cleanup to delete temporary files.
- Update Drivers: Use Windows Update or HP Support Assistant to ensure all drivers are updated.
Browser Alternatives
- If Chrome is slow, try lighter browsers like Microsoft Edge or Firefox.
- Consider disabling extensions in Chrome to improve its performance.
Malware and Antivirus Check
- Run a full scan using Windows Defender or any trusted antivirus software to ensure there’s no malware causing the lag.
Reinstall or Reset Windows
- A clean install or factory reset of Windows can sometimes resolve persistent performance issues.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Choose Reset this PC.

Hardware Upgrade
- If the laptop has an HDD, upgrading to an SSD is the most effective way to improve speed.
- Increasing RAM, if the system supports it, can also help.
Check for Background Tasks
- Open Task Manager and check the Processes tab to see if any application or service is consuming excessive CPU, memory, or disk resources.
Verify Power Settings
- Use the High Performance power plan:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Select High Performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
