I need to find my recovery key # for my laptop. How do I do so, if I cannot login? It takes me to the  recovery key page on startup

@tattooedauthor, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

If your HP Envy laptop is asking for a BitLocker recovery key at startup and you're unable to log in, here are the steps to retrieve it:

Where to Find Your BitLocker Recovery Key

Microsoft Account (Most Common)

  • If you signed into your laptop with a Microsoft account, your recovery key is likely saved there.
  • Visit: https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey
  • Sign in with the same Microsoft account used on the laptop.
  • Look for the recovery key associated with your device name.

Other Possible Locations

  • Another device: If you printed or saved the key to a USB drive or another PC.
  • Azure AD or Work Account: If this is a work/school device, contact your IT admin.
  • Paper copy: You may have printed the key during setup.
