@mooserich, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Startup Issues and Installing Windows on HP Laptops!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When your HP laptop displays the link http://hp.com/go/techcenter/startup, it indicates startup issues. Follow these steps to troubleshoot and install Windows 10 or 11:

Troubleshooting Startup Issues

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Remove memory cards and disconnect all nonessential devices (printers, external hard drives, USB flash drives).
  • With the AC adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for approximately 20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the computer.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics main menu, click System Tests > Fast Test > Run Once.
  • If the Fast Test does not identify any issues and the problem persists, run the Extensive Test.

Installing Windows 10 or 11

Download Windows:

Create a Bootable USB Drive:

  • Use the Windows Media Creation Tool on another working computer to create a bootable USB drive with the Windows installation files.

Installation Process:

  • Insert the bootable USB drive into the HP laptop.
  • Turn on the laptop and immediately press Esc repeatedly to access the startup menu. Then press F9 to select the boot device.
  • Select the USB drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 10 or 11.
  • Choose "Custom: Install Windows only" for a clean installation or "Upgrade" to retain personal files and settings.

Driver Installation:

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
