Hello @jagongo, and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP laptop powers on (power LED is lit), but there's no display, no fan noise, and no boot activity. This issue is often related to a hardware-level fault or firmware corruption, but let’s walk through some proven steps to isolate and potentially resolve it.

Perform a Hard Reset (Power Drain)

This clears residual electrical charge and can fix no-boot issues.

For laptops with removable battery:

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the battery and adapter, then try powering on.

For laptops with non-removable battery:

  1. Unplug the AC adapter.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the adapter and power on.

Check for Display Output

Sometimes the screen is black, but the system is working in the background.

  • Connect an external monitor or TV via HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • Power on the laptop and press F4 (or Fn + F4) to toggle display modes.
  • If you see output on the external screen, the issue may be with the laptop display or backlight.

BIOS Recovery (Blind BIOS Recovery)

If the BIOS is corrupted, the system may not POST or show any signs of life beyond the power LED.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press and hold Windows + B keys, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.
  • If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear, or the system may beep and restart.

Reseat RAM and Storage (If Comfortable)

Loose RAM or SSD/HDD can prevent booting.

  • Disconnect power and open the back panel.
  • Remove and reinsert the RAM sticks and SSD/HDD.
  • Reassemble and try powering on again.

If none of the above steps work, the issue could be with:

Motherboard
Power delivery circuit
BIOS chip
CPU/GPU failure
