Hi @kimrego,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop (model 15-dy2152wm) won't power up but shows a blinking power light, it indicates a potential hardware issue. Here are some steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:
Basic Troubleshooting Steps
Power Reset:
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
- Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if it's removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the power adapter (leave the battery out if removable) and try to power on the laptop.
Check the Power Adapter:
- Ensure that the power adapter is functioning correctly. If possible, test it with another compatible HP laptop or use a multimeter to check its output voltage.
- Inspect the power adapter and cable for any signs of damage.
Inspect for Loose Connections:
- Ensure that the power adapter is securely connected to the laptop and the power outlet.
- Check the power port on the laptop for any debris or damage.
Advanced Troubleshooting Steps
Blinking Light Codes:
- The blinking power light often follows a pattern that indicates specific hardware issues. Count the number of blinks and the pattern (e.g., long and short blinks).
- Refer to the HP support website for the blink code meanings specific to your laptop model.
BIOS Reset:
- Sometimes, resetting the BIOS can help. To do this, turn off the laptop, then press and hold the Windows + B keys, and while holding these keys, press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds, then release the Power button but continue holding the Windows + B keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears.
Reseat RAM and Storage:
- If you are comfortable opening your laptop, try reseating the RAM and storage drive. Sometimes, these components can become loose and cause startup issues.
- To do this, remove the back cover of the laptop, carefully remove the RAM and storage drive, and then reinsert them securely.
External Display Test:
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI or VGA. This can help determine if the issue is with the internal display.
Check for Overheating:
- Ensure that the laptop vents are not blocked and that the internal fans are working. Overheating can prevent the laptop from powering on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
