Hi @kev155,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Laptop 14s does not start and shows no charging light when connected to the mains, it indicates a potential power issue. Here's how you can troubleshoot the problem.

Check the Power Adapter:

  • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
  • Try a different wall socket to rule out an issue with the outlet.
  • Inspect the power adapter and cable for any visible damage (frays, kinks, etc.).
  • If possible, test the power adapter with another compatible device or use a known working adapter with your laptop.

Inspect the Charging Port:

  • Check for debris or damage inside the laptop's charging port.
  • Use a flashlight to look for bent pins or dirt obstructing the connection.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge residual electricity.
  • Reconnect the battery (if removable) and the power adapter, then try turning on the laptop.

Verify the Battery:

  • If the laptop has a removable battery, remove it and try powering the laptop with only the power adapter connected.
  • If the laptop starts, the battery may need replacement.
  • For non-removable batteries, this step may require professional assistance.

Test for Power Indicators:

  • Observe if any lights (charging or power) briefly flicker when connecting the power adapter.
  • If lights flicker but the laptop does not power on, there might be a motherboard or power circuit issue.

Inspect for External Signs of Damage:

  • Check if the laptop shows any signs of physical damage (e.g., liquid spills, cracks).

Try a Battery Reset (for non-removable batteries):

  • Press and hold the power button and volume up button (or another combination specific to your model) for 10-20 seconds.
  • Release the buttons and try starting the laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
