Hi @AB447,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that the HP laptop screen is showing black:

Try these steps in order:

Reset the laptop:

  • Power off the laptop.

  • Disconnect all cables, including the power adapter.

  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.

  • Reconnect the power adapter and turn on the laptop.

Connect an external monitor:

  • Attach the laptop to an external monitor and restart it.

  • Press F4 until the image displays.

  • If the external monitor works, the issue might be the graphics driver or the laptop display.

  • Download the latest graphics driver from HP Support.

  • If no image appears on the external monitor, the LCD screen might be defective.

Recover the BIOS:

  • Turn off the laptop.

  • Connect the power adapter.

  • Press and hold Windows + B.

  • While holding those keys, press the power button for 1 second.

  • Release the keys and wait. The HP BIOS Update screen might appear and begin recovery.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
