Hi @singletonki,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your HP Chromebook X360 14a-Ca0000 (2V977AV) is experiencing slower loading speeds after a recent update, there are several steps you can take to improve its performance. Here are some troubleshooting tips and potential solutions:
Step 1: Restart Your Chromebook
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve performance issues.
- Click on the status area (bottom-right corner) and select "Power" to restart your Chromebook.
Step 2: Check for Further Updates
- Ensure your Chromebook is fully updated as there might be additional updates or patches that address performance issues.
- Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
Step 3: Clear Browsing Data
- Over time, browsing data can accumulate and slow down your device.
- Open Chrome and press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open the "Clear browsing data" window.
- Select "All time" and check "Browsing history," "Cookies and other site data," and "Cached images and files."
- Click "Clear data."
Step 4: Disable Unnecessary Extensions
- Extensions can consume resources and slow down your Chromebook.
- Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions/.
- Disable or remove any extensions you don't need.
Step 5: Manage Apps and Extensions
- Uninstall any unused apps or extensions.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Manage your apps.
- Remove any apps that you no longer use.
Step 6: Check for Background Processes
- Some processes running in the background can slow down your Chromebook.
- Open the Task Manager by pressing Search + Esc.
- End any processes that are consuming excessive resources.
Step 7: Reset Your Chromebook
- If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you can perform a reset to restore your Chromebook to its original state.
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings.
- Select "Powerwash" and follow the on-screen instructions to reset your Chromebook.
Step 8: Check Storage Space
- Ensure you have enough free storage space as low storage can impact performance.
- Go to Settings > Device > Storage management.
- Delete unnecessary files or move them to Google Drive.
Step 9: Disable Hardware Acceleration
- Disabling hardware acceleration can sometimes improve performance.
- Open Chrome and go to chrome://settings/.
- Click on "Advanced" at the bottom.
- In the "System" section, toggle off "Use hardware acceleration when available."
Step 10: Perform a Powerwash
- Powerwash will reset your Chromebook to its factory settings and can resolve persistent performance issues.
- Backup any important data before performing a Powerwash.
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings.
- Select "Powerwash" and follow the on-screen instructions.
Additional Tips
- Avoid Running Too Many Apps/Browser Tabs: Running multiple applications or browser tabs simultaneously can slow down your device.
- Keep Software Updated: Ensure that Chrome OS and all installed applications are up to date.
- Regular Maintenance: Periodically clear browsing data and manage extensions to keep your Chromebook running smoothly.
If none of these steps improve the performance, it could be a more specific issue, you might need to contact HP support for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
