Hi @ellamay21,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop keeps locking up or freezing, it could be due to software, hardware, or overheating issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you diagnose and fix the problem:
1. Check for Overheating
- If the fan is loud or the laptop feels hot, it may be overheating.
- Make sure air vents are not blocked.
- Use it on a flat, hard surface (not a bed or couch).
2. Update Drivers & Windows
- Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Also, update drivers using HP Support Assistant or Device Manager.
3. Run HP Diagnostics
- Restart the laptop and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the System Test and Hard Drive Test.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
