lap top doesnt start the service tech says the mother board has problem it doesnt worth to repair.
question which part is defect and how much it costs.

The laptop is barely competent but still could be used. It is a 64 bit dual core processor and can run 4 or 8 gigs DDR2 memory. This model series was actually one of the best products HP/Compaq ever made but now obsolete.
I looked on eBay and a motherboard is about $55 and there are lots of them available to be shipped from China.
Of course if you buy a motherboard it has to be installed and unless you can do it yourself the labor cost will make this not worth doing.
For $79 (or less-make offer) you can get one with no AC adapter or hard drive and swap yours over and have a working laptop:
No problem for you just swapping over a hard drive and maybe some memory.
