Hi @ak2317, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with an issue where your HP laptop isn't charging despite being connected to a working power source. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to try:
Check the Charging Cable and Adapter:
- Inspect the charging cable and AC adapter for any visible signs of damage.
- Try using a different charger (if available) to rule out a faulty charging cable or adapter.
Inspect the Charging Port:
- Look for any debris or dust in the charging port. Use a can of compressed air to clean it if needed.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Unplug the charger.
- Remove the laptop's battery (if removable).
- Hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reattach the battery and charger, then power on your laptop.
Check Battery Status in Windows:
- Go to Device Manager > Batteries, and ensure that "Microsoft AC Adapter" and "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" are listed without any warning symbols.
- If there’s a yellow warning, try uninstalling and reinstalling the battery drivers by right-clicking and selecting Uninstall device, then restarting the laptop.
Check BIOS Settings:
- Sometimes, charging issues can be resolved by resetting BIOS settings.
- Enter the BIOS menu by pressing the appropriate key (usually F2 or Esc) while the laptop is starting.
- Check if there's a setting related to battery health or charging, and try resetting it to default.
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- If your laptop's BIOS is outdated, it may cause charging issues. Visit the HP support website and download the latest BIOS version for your model.
- Ensure that all battery and power management drivers are up to date.
Test with a Different Power Outlet:
- Try plugging the charger into a different power outlet to ensure there’s no issue with the current one.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
