@Mimi184, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear your HP Stream laptop isn't turning on properly. Let's walk through some steps to help get it working again.

Perform a Hard Reset

This can help clear any temporary hardware or power issues.

For laptops with a removable battery:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Remove the battery and unplug the power adapter.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning it on.

For laptops with a non-removable battery:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  3. Plug in the power adapter and try turning it on.

Check the Power Adapter and LED Indicators

  • Make sure the power adapter is working and the charging LED is on.
  • If there’s no light, try a different wall outlet or adapter if available.

Try an External Display

To check if the issue is with the screen:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI.
  • Power on the laptop and see if anything displays externally.

BIOS Recovery

If the screen remains black, try a BIOS recovery:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. Release the Power button but keep holding Windows + B until you hear beeps or see the screen light up.

Perform a System Diagnostics Test

If the laptop powers on but doesn’t boot:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter diagnostics.
  3. Run the System Test to check for hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
