Hi @ArnikaGos2006

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I completely understand how unsettling it feels when your laptop powers off the moment you unplug it. Thank you for sharing the details so clearly—it helps us guide you with precision.

Let’s walk through some steps together to bring back that sense of reliability and comfort when using your device unplugged:

Step 1: Check Battery Status in Windows

  1. Connect your laptop to the charger and power it on.
  2. In Windows, press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Batteries.
  4. You should see two entries: Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
    • Right-click each and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop; Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.

Step 2: Run Battery Diagnostics

HP laptops include a built-in diagnostic tool:

  1. Shut down your laptop.
  2. Press the power button and immediately start tapping F2 until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu appears.
  3. Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  4. Run the Battery Check. This will give you a clear status of battery health.

You can also use the HP App for diagnostics and updates: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows

Step 3: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Shut down the laptop.
  2. Disconnect the charger.
  3. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the charger and power on the laptop.
    • This clears residual electrical charge and helps reset hardware connections.

Step 4: Update BIOS and Drivers

Keeping BIOS and drivers current ensures smooth communication between hardware and Windows:

  1. Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  2. Enter your laptop’s product name or serial number.
  3. Download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.

Step 5: Battery Calibration

Sometimes the battery needs recalibration:

  1. Charge the laptop to 100%.
  2. Keep it plugged in for another 2 hours.
  3. Disconnect the charger and let the battery drain completely until the laptop shuts down.
  4. Recharge uninterrupted back to 100%.

These steps should help identify whether the issue is with the battery itself or with software/driver communication. If the battery check shows “Replace” or “Weak,” then the battery may no longer be holding charge properly.
