I bought this laptop used from local junk dealer, it is special for being one of very few models to have desirable TI firewire chip and is not easy to find today, being both old and kinda rare. However BIOS is locked. Since it seems there are different sort of locked cases - this one, it requires password immediately after turning on, not just when entering BIOS settings, but when trying to boot too - "Power-on password". I've encountered units in past where just BIOS settings were locked and it wasn't big issue because it still was usable as-is, but this one asks password in same way regardless of whether trying to boot or to enter BIOS. Also it doesn't display anything as being typed in when trying to type, I think it might not see letter keys at all? Hard to even understand how much of this is BIOS corruption perhaps and how much is just it being locked for whatever reason. Behaves same way with or without hard drive being inserted.
Is is possible to get some reset code etc? Or only desoldering BIOS chip and reprogramming would help, which while not impossible for me is something I don't want to invest into being able to do, given that value of this old unit itself is very low.
If any HP employees here are for whatever reason suspicious this old unit is stolen then I can provide serial number and check all you want...
