Hi @homer888,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP laptop might be experiencing a hardware issue. The amber light on the F1 key usually indicates a hardware or BIOS problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
Power Reset:
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if it's removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect the power adapter (leave the battery out for now) and try turning the laptop on.
Check RAM:
- If you're comfortable with handling hardware, open the laptop and check the RAM sticks. Reseat them or try starting the laptop with one stick at a time if you have more than one.
External Display:
- Connect an external monitor to see if you get any display. If the external monitor works, the issue might be with the laptop's display or related components.
BIOS Recovery:
- Some HP laptops have a BIOS recovery feature that can be activated by pressing a specific key combination during startup. Check your laptop's manual or HP’s support site for instructions on how to perform a BIOS recovery.
Check for Beep Codes:
- Pay attention to any beeping sounds when you try to power on the laptop. Beep codes can provide clues about what might be wrong. Refer to your laptop’s manual or HP’s support site for beep code information.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
