Hi @j1ules0,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your old HP Pavilion computer is emitting beeping sounds, it could be an indication of a hardware issue. Beep codes are used by the computer's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) to communicate errors or problems during the startup process. The specific beep patterns can vary depending on the computer's manufacturer and BIOS version.

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the beeping issue.

  • Identify the beep pattern: Count the number of beeps and the length of each beep. For example, two short beeps followed by a long beep might indicate a specific error code. Consult your computer's manual or the HP support website to determine the meaning of the beep pattern.
  • Check hardware connections: Make sure all cables, including the power cable, keyboard, mouse, and monitor cables, are securely connected to the computer. Sometimes loose connections can cause beeping issues.
  • Reseat components: Open the computer case and reseat important components such as the RAM modules, graphics card (if applicable), and any expansion cards. Carefully remove and reinstall them to ensure they are properly seated in their respective slots.
  • Clear CMOS: Locate the CMOS battery on your motherboard (a round, silver battery) and remove it for a few seconds. Then, reinsert the battery back into its place. This action will reset the BIOS settings to default and may resolve the beeping problem.
  • Check RAM modules: If you have multiple RAM modules installed, try removing one at a time and see if the beeping stops. Faulty RAM or improper seating can cause beep codes. Test each module individually by booting the computer with only one RAM module installed at a time.
  • Test with minimal hardware: Disconnect all unnecessary peripherals and expansion cards, leaving only the essentials such as the CPU, one RAM module, and the graphics (if applicable). This step helps eliminate any potential conflicts or faulty hardware causing the beeping.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
