Does the hp omen 17 also use the esc ->F9 boot device menu? (so you don't have to change the settings in the bios menu each time)
It's important for me because I boot often from dvd's.
In case of the omen 17 it will be from an external usb dvd drive.

Hi:
It should work that way, but in order to boot from a DVD, you have to enable legacy mode and disable secure boot in the BIOS.
See this link for the settings to change...

Hi Paul,
In the mean time I've looked for the user manual of the model of the hp omen 17 laptop I should buy and indeed they speak about a startup menu esc->F9
With my current laptop I have cd/dvd's which I can boot in secure mode/UEFI and other where I must switch to legacy mode.
So I think it depends of the case if I'm not wrong.

There is something I do not understand in the link of Paul_Tikannen:
https://www.support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03736054/
After disabling secure boot and enabling legacy mode they use the startup menu to select a boot device (dvd) but
the displayed dvd device line is called UEFI
while it should be legacy in my opinion as they just changed the bios options from secure to legacy so it is the goal toboot from a legacy dvd

Hi:
Yes, I agree.
I have just turned on my HP 350 G1 notebook which has legacy mode enabled/secure boot disabled and there are options to boot from the internal CD/DVD ROM Drive in both legacy and UEFI mode.
I once tried booting from it in UEFI mode and it didn't work.
It worked fine by booting from the legacy DVD drive.
