sorry for the delayed comeback.  I had my knee replaced a week ago and am recuperating.  So, I am not getting anywhere with this problem.  Unfortunately the computer is out of warranty and I have no free support other than this forum.  Your hp address brought me back to this forum.  any other ideas?  I did back up all my data per your link recommendation.

Hi! @neuenheimer, thanks for the reply.

Hope you are doing well now. As i told you earlier 90b error indicates it could be a issue with the system fan or heatsink on your PC which might have failed.

The only option is to get this hardware replace. So you can contact HP or visit any computer store and get the issue fixed.

Have a great day!

Take Care! 🙂

sorry for the long delay.  Thank you very much for all the help.  I took your advise and ordered a new fan.  I had it installed.  The problem is finally fixed.  It appears the bearing  in the fan motor was defective. No more noises.  Yay!
