Hello, I recently upgraded my ram on my hp victus 15-fa1000 windows 11 from 8gb to 16gb. When I powered on the laptop, it displayed CMOS error 502, i clicked on the option to restart the laptop, and it did. Everything was fine, until about 30 minutes into using the laptop, when the laptop went off. I tried powering it on, the power button comes on for about 6 seconds, and then goes off, and continues this cycle. I’ve tried to drain out the power, disconnect and reconnect the battery, put back the old ram, but it’s still the same thing. I also noticed that when i close my laptop as it would as though it was in sleep mode, the light stops blinking, but once I raise the screen, it starts blinking again. Any form of advice or troubleshoot will be greatly appreciated, as I don’t want to believe that the motherboard might be the issue.

Hi @Melvin0111,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify RAM Compatibility:

  • Ensure the new RAM module is compatible with your HP Victus model. Refer to your laptop’s manual or HP support for compatible RAM specifications.

Reseat RAM Modules:

  • Power off the laptop and disconnect it from any power source.
  • Open the back panel of the laptop and remove the RAM modules.
  • Carefully reseat the RAM modules in their slots, ensuring they are securely installed.

Reset CMOS/BIOS:

  • This can be done by either removing the CMOS battery briefly or using a BIOS reset jumper (if available).
  • Alternatively, most HP laptops allow you to reset BIOS by holding down the power button for several seconds.

Drain Power Completely:

  • Ensure the laptop is completely unplugged from any power source and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds to ensure all residual power is drained.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter.

Clear CMOS Error 502

Perform BIOS Update:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS update for your Victus 15-fa1000.
  • Follow the instructions on updating your BIOS. This can often resolve CMOS errors.

Load BIOS Default Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 during startup).
  • Load the default settings and save changes to exit BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Try reseating the ram and changing slots. Or possibly try each stick individually.
