I get this message every 30 seconds or so on my laptop from the time I log on until I log off. My scan-to-computer function on the printer works fine. How can I turn this message off? I followed another thread here that mentioned disabling it in the Task Manager, which I tried - but that killed my ability to scan at all.

Thanks in advance,

Hi @stillbillmd

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining what you’re seeing. That repeating pop‑up is definitely annoying, and since disabling the background process stopped scanning altogether, it sounds like the message is tied to the HP software that manages the “Scan to Computer” feature.

Before we narrow down the right way to suppress the alert without breaking scanning, I’d like to get a clearer picture of your setup:

  • Which HP printer model are you using? (e.g., HP OfficeJet, ENVY, LaserJet, etc.)
  • Do you know if the printer is connected via Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, or USB?
  • On your laptop, are you running Windows 10, Windows 11, or macOS?
  • Did you install the printer using the HP Smart app or the older HP full‑feature driver/software package?
  • Has this message only started recently (after an update or reinstall), or has it been happening for a long time?

With those details, I can guide you toward the right adjustment—whether it’s a setting in HP software, a service that can be disabled safely, or a tweak in the notification behavior—without losing the ability to scan.

Could you share those specifics about your printer and computer setup?

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,
