Entertainment Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This laptop has been sitting for quite a while without being used - battery was dead but using the power pack, I was able to bootup by using the password just a couple days ago without any problem.

However, when I tried it today I am getting "invalid password" and after three attempts I get "System Disable and  67897414".  SN# [Personal Information Removed] and has been upgraded to Windows 10 Home.  Hope you can help and thanks.  Ken

Well, I stumbled on the solution.

Having tried the code both before I posted the problem on this forum and then trying the same code again to no avail, I saw another suggestion: disconnect the power supply, remove the battery, depress power switch for 30 seconds, replace the battery and connect power and try again. It worked!!  Then I shut down and restarted again, and again I got "system disable".  Tried the same procedure a couple more times without any luck.  Finally, it dawned on me that the first time I removed the battery I also removed the dongle that came with a new Blackweb wireless mouse. Not thinking the dongle was the problem, I reinserted the dongle on subsequent tries and continued to get "system disable".  Finally, the "light bulb" came on and I removed the dongle - it was the problem!  No more "system disable".  🙂

Hi:

Restart the PC, and enter this unlock passcode...

Hi Paul,

I had already tried that code generated by https://bios-pw.org/ .  It does not work.    78795430  gets an "invalid password" response.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Ken

Hi:

Unfortunately, not.

The code must be preceeded by a small letter 'i' in front of it and if so, the BIOS password site doesn't work for those.

Your only hope of getting the password removed is to contact HP technical support for assistance.

Not even removing the CMOS battery will clear the P/W.
