Did nothing new. I forgot the password, had to reboot the desktop computer, it gave me an error screen, I ran diagnostic tests, and it's still not letting me go to the lock screen

Hi @Ivory07-95_,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'd like to understand a bit more about what you're seeing so we can point you in the right direction.

When you mention that it's not letting you get to the lock screen, could you clarify which screen you're referring to?

  • Is it the BIOS/Startup password screen that appears before Windows loads?
  • Or is it the Windows sign-in screen where you normally enter your account password or PIN?

Also, could you tell us:

  • What is the exact error message or code shown on the error screen?
  • Does the PC display the HP logo when it starts?
  • After running the diagnostics, did any test fail or provide a Failure ID?
  • What happens now when you power the desktop on?

If possible, please share a photo of the screen you're seeing. A picture of the error message or the screen where the system stops would help us better understand what's preventing the PC from reaching the login screen.

Once we know whether this is occurring before Windows loads or after Windows starts, we can provide more targeted troubleshooting steps and help get you moving again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
