Hi @0_404
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand your HP OmniBook Ultra is freezing randomly (sometimes right at boot, sometimes later). That could be either hardware or software/driver related.
Let’s break it down:
Common Causes of Freezing
Hardware
RAM issues → bad memory stick or loose seating.
Storage (SSD/HDD) failing → causes random hangs, especially at boot.
Overheating → dust in vents, fan not spinning, thermal paste dried out.
Battery/power instability → freezes if voltage drops.
Software
Corrupted Windows installation or drivers (graphics/network drivers especially).
Background apps or antivirus causing hangs.
Windows updates stuck or conflicting.
Steps to Diagnose
1. Check Hardware Health
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI):
Shut down the laptop.
Power on and repeatedly press Esc, then choose F2 – Diagnostics.
Run Memory Test and Hard Drive Test.
If either fails → it’s a hardware fault.
2. Check for Overheating
Does the fan spin loudly before freezes?
Does the chassis feel very hot?
Use a cooling pad or blow out vents with compressed air.
3. Boot in Safe Mode
Hold Shift → Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Safe Mode.
If it runs fine in Safe Mode, the issue is likely drivers or software.
4. Update / Reinstall Drivers
Update graphics, Wi-Fi, chipset drivers from HP’s support page.
Sometimes Intel or AMD GPU drivers cause freezes.
5. Run System File Check
Open Command Prompt as Admin and run:
sfc /scannow
and
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
6. Last Resort → Reset Windows
Backup files.
Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC.
If it still freezes after a clean install → hardware is faulty.
