Hello, sometimes when the laptop is being charged, the screen goes off and the white light on the power button turns off and it turns on again and the laptop screen appears on the startup screen. I cannot use the device properly while charging.

@karayel, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It seems like you're experiencing an issue where your HP Victus laptop turns off or shuts down intermittently while charging. This could be due to various reasons like power supply issues, battery problems, or software conflicts. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to identify and possibly fix the issue:

Check the Power Adapter and Charging Cable:

  • Inspect the charger: Ensure the power adapter and charging cable are not damaged or frayed. A loose connection or damaged cable can cause power interruptions.
  • Try a different power outlet: Plug the charger into a different outlet to rule out issues with the power source.
  • Test with another charger: If possible, try using a different charger with the same specifications to check if the charger is the issue.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Power off the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the charging cable.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and try turning on the laptop again. This will reset any electrical charge in the laptop and might help in case the issue is caused by the battery or power management system.

Update the BIOS and Drivers:

  • Update BIOS:
    • Go to the HP support website: HP Drivers & Downloads.
    • Look for the latest BIOS version for your laptop model (HP Victus 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop) and follow the instructions to update it.
  • Update Drivers:
    • Open Device Manager (press Win + X, select "Device Manager").
    • Check for any updates for your Display Drivers and Power Management Drivers. Right-click the device and select Update Driver.
    • Visit the HP support website to download and install any updates for the chipset and power management drivers specific to your laptop model.

Check Power Settings in Windows:

  • Power Options:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options or Settings > System > Power & Battery.
    • Ensure your laptop is set to Balanced or High Performance mode when plugged in.
    • Under Additional Power Settings, click Change plan settings next to your selected plan, then click Change advanced power settings. Check the settings for Battery and Plugged in to make sure there aren’t any unusual configurations causing the issue.

Inspect Battery Health:

  • Battery Report:
    • Open Command Prompt (Press Win + X, select "Command Prompt" or "Windows PowerShell").
    • Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
    • This generates a report that can show you battery health and other relevant details. You can find the report in the specified directory.
    • If the battery report shows anything unusual (e.g., rapid discharge or not charging properly), it may indicate a problem with the battery.

Perform a System Diagnostic Test:

HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics that can help identify hardware issues.

  • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
    • Power off the laptop, then press the ESC key repeatedly as soon as you power it on.
    • Press F2 to run the HP Diagnostics tool.
    • Perform a comprehensive test on the battery and power components.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Disable Fast Startup:
    • Fast startup can sometimes cause issues with the power state.
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    • Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save changes.

Reset the Battery Driver:

Sometimes, the issue can be caused by corrupt battery drivers.

  • Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select it).
  • Expand Batteries and right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
  • Select Uninstall device, and restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

Test the Laptop with the Battery Removed (If Removable):

If your battery is removable (check your model’s specs), remove it and try running the laptop on AC power alone. If the laptop works fine, the battery might be the culprit.

Consider a System Reset (Last Resort):

If all else fails, you can try performing a system reset or restore:

  • Reset Windows 11: Go to Settings > System > Recovery, and choose Reset this PC. This will allow you to choose between keeping your files or removing everything to do a fresh installation of Windows.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
