If your Windows 11 PC is repeatedly booting into Automatic Repair and not successfully starting, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
Steps to Resolve Automatic Repair Loop:
Perform a System Restore:
- Use the system restore option to revert your computer to a prior state before the problem started.
- During the Automatic Repair screen, select "Advanced options."
- Go to "Troubleshoot" -> "Advanced options" -> "System Restore."
- Choose a restore point before the issue started, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Startup Repair:
- In the "Advanced options" menu, select "Troubleshoot" -> "Advanced options" -> "Startup Repair."
- Allow Windows to attempt to fix startup issues automatically.
Check Disk for Errors:
- Boot to the "Advanced options" menu and select "Command Prompt."
- Type chkdsk C: /f /r and press Enter to check and repair file system errors.
Boot into Safe Mode:
- From "Advanced options," choose "Startup Settings" -> "Restart."
- Once the PC restarts, press the appropriate key (usually F4) to boot into Safe Mode.
- In Safe Mode, you can delete problematic drivers or software that might be causing the issue.
Disable Automatic Startup Repair:
- Open the Command Prompt from the "Advanced options" menu.
- Type bcdedit /set {default} recoveryenabled No and press Enter.
Rebuild the Boot Configuration Data (BCD):
- Open Command Prompt from the "Advanced options."
- Type the following commands one by one:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot boot
rec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd - Restart your PC.
Check for Problems with Updates:
- If you recently installed an update and suspect it's the cause, you can uninstall it in Safe Mode under "Settings" -> "Update & Security" -> "View update history."
Reset PC:
- As a last resort, use the "Reset this PC" option from "Advanced options" -> "Troubleshoot."
- You can choose to keep your personal files or remove everything.
