HP Pavilion 14-b130sa Ultrabook
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My HP Pavilion 14-b130sa Ultrabook is stuck in a loop on the windows is loading files screen and cannot get into bios for boot options.

I cannot boot the laptop into windows and I cannot get into bios to change boot order.

I have tried the usual, press "Esc" key when powering on, I do get the options list but whatever I select that relates to bios, boot options and recovery goes into the windows is loading files loop.

I can access the Diagnostics option and both the memory and hard drives checks passed.

I have tried holding down the windows key and B, powering on and continue to hold the windows key and B waiting for the beep.  This just gives me a black screen with the caps lock light flashing slowly on and off and does nothing else until powered down.

Hi,

Try agian, but turn off the computer by pressing the power button. Next turn on PC and press ESC and then F10 for BIOS.

Now, if this does not work you could try either downloading the Bios on different PC and creating a bootable drive.

You could also remove the drive and attach to a desktop PC internally or USB to SATA and wipe the drive, this way it will not boot from it and should boot from the first bootable drive.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi David,

Thanks for the response.  I have used all F'key combinations etc. prior to this post.  I had also removed the drive and blanked it still with no success.  I believe the bios is also corrupt.

Luckily I have a few of this model and have swapped the hard drives over.  Its now letting me reinstall windows to it as the bios is fine on other machine.

The bios is corrupt but as the other hard drive has no issues I can now boot into windows and repair the bios on the first machine.

You're welcome. Great idea, you seem to know your way around HP notebooks.

Strange issue. I guess the BIOS update should resolve it. I was just wondering, when you wiped the drive did you use diskpart?

Did you try booting the PC without a drive in it?

Let me know if you need anything else.

All the best,

David

Hi David,

I did use diskpart.  I didn't try booting without hard drive.
