@vindy1,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The “3F0 – Boot Device Not Found” error indicates that your laptop cannot detect a bootable operating system on the hard drive. Here’s how to proceed:

1. Check BIOS/UEFI:

  1. Power off the laptop completely.

  2. Press Esc → F10 to enter BIOS/UEFI.

  3. Check if your hard drive/SSD is detected under “Storage” or “Boot Options.”

    • If the drive does not appear → possible hardware failure or loose connection.

    • If the drive does appear → check boot order: make sure the internal drive is first and that UEFI mode is enabled (Legacy Support disabled).

2. Run HP Diagnostics:

  1. Press F2 at startup to access HP System Diagnostics.

  2. Run Storage Quick Test and Extensive Test.

    • If the drive fails → replacement is needed.

    • If the drive passes → the OS may be corrupted.

3. OS Recovery or Reinstallation:

  • If the drive is healthy but the OS is missing or corrupted:

    1. Use another Windows PC to download and run the HP Cloud Recovery Tool. Enter your product number to create a bootable USB recovery drive.

    2. Alternatively, use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to create a Windows 10 or 11 USB installer.

  • Boot your laptop from the USB drive and reinstall Windows.

4. If Drive Replacement is Needed:

  • If diagnostics indicate failure:

    1. Replace the hard drive/SSD.

    2. Install Windows via HP Cloud Recovery Tool or Media Creation Tool.

Extra Tips:

  • Backup files: If the drive is detected but OS is corrupt, you can recover personal files by connecting the drive to another PC.

  • SATA/PCIe mode: Make sure AHCI or NVMe is correctly enabled in BIOS depending on your drive.

  • Secure Boot: Enable for Windows 10/11 installations.

Summary:

  1. Check BIOS → confirm the drive is detected and boot order is correct.

  2. Run HP Diagnostics → determine if the drive is healthy.

  3. Reinstall Windows using USB recovery media if the drive is fine.

  4. Replace the drive if it fails diagnostics, then reinstall Windows.

  5. If the above is way outside your comfort zone, seek the assistance of a professional or local laptop repair/service business.

Following this order will help you determine whether this is a hardware or software issue and get your laptop running again.

Kind Regards,
