@afroj0786, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Based on your issue description and the image showing the “USB device not recognized” error on your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y1AV) running Windows 11, here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve both the USB recognition and boot problems:

Disconnect USB Devices and Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off the laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect all USB devices (including flash drives, external HDDs, printers, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  4. Reconnect only the power adapter and turn on the laptop.

Check USB Ports and Device Functionality

  • Try connecting the USB device to another port or another PC to verify if the device itself is working.
  • If the device works elsewhere, the issue may be with the laptop’s USB drivers or hardware.

Update USB Drivers

  1. Right-click StartDevice Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Right-click each USB Root Hub or Host Controller → Update driverSearch automatically.
  4. Restart the laptop.

Alternatively, use HP Support Assistant:

Remove Corrupted USB Entries

  1. In Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus controllers, look for any entries with a yellow exclamation mark.
  2. Right-click and choose Uninstall device.
  3. Restart the laptop to reinstall drivers automatically.

Check Boot Order in BIOS

If the laptop is trying to boot from a malfunctioning USB device, it can cause boot issues.

  1. Restart the laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
  2. Go to Boot Options.
  3. Ensure Internal Hard Drive is set as the first boot device.
  4. Disable USB Boot temporarily if needed.
  5. Save changes and exit.

Run HP UEFI Diagnostics

To check for hardware issues:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press Esc → then F2 to launch HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Run USB Port Test and System Tests.

Windows Troubleshooter

  1. Go to SettingsSystemTroubleshootOther troubleshooters.
  2. Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

If the Issue Persists:

  • Try booting into Safe Mode and see if USB devices are recognized.
  • Consider performing a System Restore to a point before the issue started.
  • If USB ports are physically damaged, service may be required.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
