Hi @TJ8799 ,

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your laptop is not a 17.3" model. It is a 15.6-inch HP 15-series TouchSmart laptop with an AMD processor.
The sticker confirms that it includes a capacitive touchscreen and was originally optimized for Windows 8.1.

You also mentioned that the laptop beeps twice and the Caps Lock light blinks three times when powered on. On HP systems, this combination usually indicates BIOS corruption or a firmware failure, not faulty RAM.

Please try the HP BIOS recovery steps shown in the following official video tutorial:

If you would like to check the exact hardware configuration originally shipped with your laptop, you can look it up using HP PartSurfer:

I was going to buy it so the lister /seller is wrong on his description of his item

if it is the bios is it easy to fix or have to buy a new motherboard

Thank you

Hello @TJ8799 ,

Yes, the seller’s description appears to be incorrect — the laptop is a 15.6-inch HP TouchSmart model, not a 17.3" system.

Regarding the error you mentioned (2 beeps and 3 Caps Lock blinks), this normally points to a BIOS corruption issue. In many cases, this can be repaired without replacing the motherboard. HP provides a built-in BIOS recovery method that may bring the system back to life.

However, the success depends on the severity of the corruption:

✔ If the BIOS is only partially corrupted:

A BIOS recovery or reflash usually fixes it.

✔ If the BIOS chip is severely corrupted or damaged:

The motherboard might need repair or replacement.

Before assuming a motherboard failure, it’s definitely worth trying the BIOS recovery steps shown in the HP video I shared earlier. Many users have successfully brought systems back using this method.

Hope this helps resolve your issue.
