Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently bought an M.2 ssd  in order to install Wiindows 10 on it (as it was an upgrade option for this laptop). However, the device does not appear in the selection list for software installation. Is it possible that the BIOS does not support boot from NVMe mode? I tried to change the configuration of the ssd but couldn't find any option for this (neither for SATA configuration) in the BIOS. I tried to boot in UEFI mode. Thank you for feedback in advance.

Yes what you are missing is that there is more than one kind of M.2 drive. There is SATA and there is NVME also known as PCIe. The difference between these is more than just BIOS it is actual hardware. Admittedly this is very confusing, but not our doing and not even HP's doing. It is the industry. But when you upgrade, you have to be sure you understand what you have and what you are installing. We are always here for help before you spend money for an upgrade. The problem is it is very hard to know what you don't know or to have questions when you don't even know there is an issue. I hope you can return the M.2 drive you have and we can try to help find one that will work.

Then, how can such drive be recognized from OS? In the manual, it is clearly stated that M.2 solid state drives are compatible with this laptop (hardware wise at least). What's the point of having BIOS incompatible with them. Maybe i miss something here.

Thank you very much for your clarification. The drive though is an ADATA SP550 M.2 2280 SSD 120GB (http://www.adata.com/us/ssd/specification/382 ) and now I realize that is a SATA drive. Is it possible that it is not recognized because it is < 128 GB? Your feedback is highly appreciated.

No the size should not be an issue. Let's review what you have done to install it. Please go back through the steps you followed and any error messages you may be getting.
