I have installed an Intel 600P 256GB m2 PCI-E, which I can access for storage. I have cloned the system drives onto it, but cannot boot from it.
When the BIOS boot options come up, the m2 is not listed, but is defintiely selected as an option in the boot list in BIOS.
When Windows opens, it offers the m2 system as an option, but always fails with the winload.exe not available error.
I have tried in AHCI and RAID.
I have tried a fresh install to the m2 but Windows will not install as it says the drive is not bootable.
Is there an issue whereby the Intel drive is incompatible for booting, or is there a configuration I need to try?

You probably found the answer already, but for those coming from Google search trying to find the solution: the answer is yes, ZBook 15 G2 is able to boot from M2 PCI-E but it needs extra work.
Basically the UEFI firmware does not have the required NVME driver to 'see' the SSD during pre-boot. Thus the EFI boot manager won't be able load any OS from NVME drive.
The workaround is posted here:

Read page 13-15 to get the idea. Note that secure boot need to be turned off.
