How to Turn On Keyboard Backlight on HP EliteBook 850 G2:
The HP EliteBook 850 G2 does come with an optional backlit keyboard. To turn on the keyboard backlight:
Locate the backlight key — It’s usually the F5 key (look for a backlight icon: 🔆 or a keyboard with light rays).
Press the Fn key + F5 (i.e., hold Fn, then tap F5).
Each press usually cycles through Off → Low → High → Off (depending on your model).
If nothing happens:
Your model might not have the backlit keyboard option installed. Not all EliteBook 850 G2 units include it -it was optional at purchase.
Check your BIOS settings to ensure the keyboard backlight is enabled:
Reboot the laptop and press Esc repeatedly at startup, then press F10 for BIOS Setup.
Look for a keyboard backlight option (under “Advanced” or “Device Configuration”) and enable it -if available.
Still not working?
If you don’t see a backlight icon on the keyboard and the above doesn’t work, your unit likely lacks the backlit keyboard hardware.
Let me know if you'd like help verifying that.
Kind Regards,
