8540p elitebook
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello, I have the 8540p elitebook. It has the i5 cpu and the nvs 5100m gpu. I want to upgrade the gpu to the quatro 2000m because it supports direct x 11. I understand the card is not supported but I found someone with their own drivers that get it to  run supposedly. I want to know if there are any cards out there that are better than what I have and are already supported by the computer that can be direct x 11. I have a few games I want that require 11, I realize its not a gaming laptop but still works well for all games I've tried so far. Just want to upgrade to this guy or something equal to

Hi! I'm wondering the same for myself, but can offer some insight on the matter. So I had started out with the i5 and NVS 5100m to start. I've gone to the i7-640m and the Quadro fx 1800m for the GDDR5 capabilities, went to 8GB RAM, SSD upgrade, and sacrificed my optical drive for a caddy that holds a 7200rpm 1TB. After finding out there were even stronger video card  possibilities out there, I've tried the Quadro 1000m and the Quadro 2000m. Both are PCIe 2.0 interface but all I would get is power with no video. I tried sideloading the drivers through a Live OS, and still nothing. I belive this model has a BIOS whitelist of acceptable video cards, and sadly I may have maxed it out.

I had seen the video that you had posted as well, and tried the same steps as he did as well. It's a shame, because this has been my favorite laptop I've ever owned. It's a super-reliable notebook! I'll definitely be following this thread, as I've been looking for a relevant post to the one I was just about to create! I wish us luck on hopeful discoveries!

Hey Dfries. Just thought I'd let you know that in another forum there were talks of using an OEM Dell Quadro card since the vBIOS on the Dell card supposedly doesn't rely on the vBIOS restrictions on the board itself. I'll be receiving the card I ordered between 9/6-9/16, so I'll chime in with the results!
