Hi @Oruc1
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand that you are still seeing the 90B System Fan Error on your HP OMEN 17-ck2000 even after a fan replacement and BIOS update.
Since hardware service has already been performed, To help further, could you kindly confirm the below details :
- Does the 90B error appear every time the notebook starts, or only occasionally?
- After pressing Enter, does Windows load normally?
- Have you noticed high temperatures, loud fan noise, or unexpected shutdowns?
- Was the replacement fan installed by an authorized HP service center?
In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:
Step 1: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics - Click here for steps
- Turn off the notebook.
- Power it on and repeatedly tap F2.
- Open Component Tests.
- Run the Fan Test and note any failure ID or error message.
Step 2: Load BIOS Defaults
- Turn off the notebook.
- Turn it on and tap F10 to enter BIOS.
- Select Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults.
- Save changes and restart.
Step 3: Verify Airflow
- Ensure the notebook is being used on a hard, flat surface.
- Check that the rear and side vents are not blocked.
- If available, use compressed air to gently clean the external vents.
Step 4: Check Fan Operation
After Windows loads:
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub or HP Support Assistant.
- Observe whether the fan speed changes when the system is under load.
- If the fan remains at a fixed speed or reports abnormal readings, it may indicate a cooling system or fan-detection issue.

The 90B error is generated by the system firmware when it detects that the cooling fan is either not spinning at the expected speed or is not being properly detected. HP designed this warning to protect the processor and graphics components from excessive heat.
Since the fan has already been replaced and the BIOS has been updated, the results of the HP Fan Test and the notebook's temperature behavior will help determine the next troubleshooting step.
I hope this helps.

Yes, the fans were replaced at the HP authorized service, but they couldn't fix the problem in one go. The fan was replaced, then the BIOS was updated, and finally...Afterwards, they said the motherboard was faulty and now they say we will replace the motherboard.

Hi @Oruc1,
Thank you for the update, Since the fan has already been replaced by an authorized HP service center, the BIOS has been updated, and the diagnostic steps provided earlier did not resolve the issue, this indicates that the problem may extend beyond the fan itself.
Before proceeding further, could you kindly confirm whether the notebook is currently:
- At the HP service center, or
- Back with you and available for testing?
Also, thank you for confirming that one fan is operating while the other is not spinning. This is an important observation, as the 90B error appears when the system is unable to detect proper fan operation or expected fan speed during startup.
As a final check, kindly verify the following:
- Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics Fan Test once more and note any Failure ID that may be displayed.
Based on the service center's findings that the motherboard may be faulty, and considering that one fan is still not spinning after the fan replacement, a physical hardware inspection or motherboard replacement may be required to fully resolve the issue.
If the notebook is still with the service center, we recommend continuing to work with them on the ongoing repair. If the notebook is currently with you, kindly share the results of the Fan Test and confirm whether the motherboard replacement has already been scheduled.
