I have a four year old hp laptop, product # 1KV35UA#ABA.  It has a 1 tb hard-drive. 16 gb Ram (just upgraded from 😎

I would like to keep the 1 tb drive, and ADD an SSD to the laptop.  I would use the new SSD for windows boot disk drive.

My question:  does this laptop have the interface and room to add an SSD, in addition to keeping the SATA drive?

According to your Service Manual- http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05963248.pdf  It has an m.2 SATA 3 slot. To me, adding a second drive as an ssd negates the benefit of having one. The ssd should be the boot drive, and that would speed it it signifcantly.

I agree - that's exactly what I'm trying to do.  The SSD would be a dual boot windows / Linux drive.

Ok then, it was unclear in your original post. You may like the upgraded laptop enough to put off another one for a while yet.

Yes, I might just keep it for a year, lol.  And I really need a desktop, with a good size screen.

But I don't know if this HP laptop can accomodate an SSD in addition to keeping the current SATA.

Do you, by any chance?

The service manual says there is a SATA 3 port, and an m.2 slot. Whether or not your's came with the m.2 board and bracket is another story. Parts list is on page 20.

I looked at those parts I referred to earlier, and I was wrong. Those are parts needed to use the existing SATA connector  and turn it into an m.2 SATA slot and holder. Look on page 51 for a picture. If you get a 2.5" SATA ssd there would be no need for the adapter.

You can probably buy a dvd adapter to replace the dvd drive with a 2.5" mechanical or SATA  ssd, however.
