Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Took laptop to HP authorized service center to have a new battery installed (old one expanded).  They replaced it, but now my battery icon shows "No Battery Detected)  When I called the service center, they said they "might" be able to fix it with software, otherwise I would have to do a full Windows 10 reinstallation.  Not feeling real confident in this response.  Is there a fix with out taking my laptop back to the center????

Hi, @bramjet the same thing happened on my laptop when I replaced the battery.

A good way to know if the battery is connected is to do this.

1. Plug in your charger to the PC

2. Go to battery settings and see if the battery documentation says charger connected or something like charging.

3. You may also restart the Laptop and see if it changes anything.

4. Finally shut down the Laptop and remove the charger and see if the laptop powers on without the charger connected.

5. If the laptop powers on then it means that the battery is connected and the laptop icon has not fully calibrated with the new battery.

6. If the steps above still did not work out then you need to check if the battery was properly connected to the laptop battery slot.

Let me know how this goes.

Thanks!  no indicators show a battery and it will not boot up unless plugged in, however, will run for several hours unplugged.  So the battery works, just can't see status (or presence.)  have done several reboots and hard reboots.  no change.

@bramjet,

In my experience, the one time I had a "No battery is detected" message, it was caused by a corrupted battery driver.

The following procedure fixed my battery problem:

1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager from the options.
2.) Double-click the Batteries option to expand it.
3.) Right-click on each of the Battery adapters, one at a time, and select Disable device.
4.) Finally, right-click on each Battery adapter again and select Enable device.

Restart your notebook and check if this resolves your issue.

If the issue persists, try reinstalling the battery drivers by following these steps:

  1. Right-click on each Battery adapter and select Uninstall device.
  2. Click the Scan for hardware changes tab and then restart your PC once the process is complete.

@bramjet,

All right, have you tried: "Test the battery using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (preferred method)" troubleshooting option yet?

If not, click on this link: HP Notebook PCs - Battery not detected in Windows | HP® Customer Support and click on the "+" sign under "Test the battery".  Make sure you have the HP Hardware Diagnostics software, and if not, follow the "What if my computer does not have the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows?" directives in order to get it.

@bramjet,

Any time -I am glad I could offer some suggestions.  I hope you get this worked out soon!  -The service center should honor a warranty on the work/replacement rendered.
