Hello
Have a HP Pavilion g6. Considering upgrading the CPU to get a better speed as Notebook seems to run slow especially on the inernet. Have 292GB of 500GB free storage so think its the CPU that is slow.
Current CPU is
AMD A8-3520M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.60 GHz
Does anyone know what CPU are compatible
Can I install any one of these 2d gen Intel Core processors:
Intel Core i7-2620M processor (2.7 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.40 GHz, 4 MB L3), Dual 35 W 631252-001
Thinking of a i7 6th gen
or
Intel Core i5-2540M processor (2.6 GHz,SC turbo up to 3.3 GHz, 3 MB L3), Dual 35 W 631255-001
Intel Core i5-2520M processor (2.5 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.2 GHz, 3 MB L3), Dual 35 W 631253-001
Intel Core i5-2410M processor (2.3 GHz, SC turbo up to 2.9 GHz, 3 MB L3), Dual 35 W 638039-001
Can someone explain the SC turbo to achieve 3,4GHZ
Thanks if someone can help and has done this before.

What is your Pavilion g6 ? No, you can't install Intel CPU on AMD motherboard and vice versa. It simply won't physically fit.
Please use the following way to find out the model/product of your machine

Please do NOT post its Serial number (s/n).
Regards.

Thanks for the reply
My HP Pavilion code inside battery cover is g6-1331sa
Can recommend a quicker AMD CPU than the 1.6GHZ one its original that I can switch.
Also notice from AVG tune up my registry has 423 broken registry codes. Also 320 broken short cuts, mainly explorer related slowing the notebook down. If I unis talked explorer via Rev pro and reinstalled it would these lines be removed or do I need to set a recovery point and use regedit.
Have reduced start up apps like one note down to a few to improved start up.
Need to declutter.
But want a better CPU speed, as the orginal.

Hi Everyone.
I thought I woukd continue with this thread A the help others in the same situation and
B get a better laptop preformance when cash is short to buy a new one.
I have done a little research onto what all these AMD and Intel processors (cpu) do in terms of clock speed and no of cores and their physical fit, socket type.
My old HP Pavilion g6-1331sa wasn't top of the range then in 2011 but coped ok with Windows 7. Now we have moved 10 years on it is pretty slow in Window 10 29h2 release.
Could declutter but I don't believe that the only answer it's the processor, it's relatively slow and is a AMD and not the better Intel made.
Original is
AMD a8-3520 clock frequency 1.60ghz, boost 2.5ghz code name Liano cores 4 so cache 1 MB x4 = 4MB, socket FS1. Die 228mm, Takes 35w. Release 20 Dec 2011.
Looking at a upgrade
Consideringfor about £20 the following keeping as close to original found
AMD a10-4600 clock 2.3-3.2ghz May 2012. but socket FS1R2 and die size 246mm Or
AMD a10-5750 clock 2.5 - 3.5ghz
issue
Not sure what this extra r2 jargon on socket fit means. It is different to just FS1 as per AMD a8 gen above. This die size 246mm Will it fit in the Pavilion g6-1331sa mother board where previous die size was 228mm

Hello
Seems the HP Pavilion g6-1331sa processor cannot be upgraded. Constrained by
Socket type FS1 and 35V means the only compatible processors in the AMD a class are either a8 or a or a all of which are just as bad. One site even suggested a a4 runs faster at 2 GHz boost 2 5 ghz but is a dual, and not a quad. So can only keep original AMD a8-3520m at 1.6ghx boost upto 2.5ghz.
So to end this thread best to buy a upto date laptop or the more valve for money column desktops on the market that has at least a intel I5 or i7 or even a i9 processor and stop relying on the old tech in this poorly rated HP Pavilion. On the good side have managed to declutter more and get it to start up without waiting half a day before I can open a spreadsheet up.
