DDR4 3200 known as 2933

Hello,

I have an Omen 17-CB1041NF. This PC unit came with 2x4Gb DDR4 in 3200MHz (it's written on each module). Windows, CPU-Z, BIOS, UserBenchmark.... say those 2 modules are recognized as 2933MHz only, not 3200.

I tried to replace those 2 modules by only one 16GB 3200MHz. Same thing.

Yet, the 8748 HP Motherboard supports DDR4 until 3200mHZ. So why the PC unit can use 3200 DDR4 at 2933MHz only?

I search in BIOS if there is a XMP option to force the speed to 3200 but there is not XMP option!

Can you tell me how to do to get "YOUR" DDR4 working at its own and true speed, I mean 3200 MHz and not only 2933?

I reviewed your post and I understand that the RAM is working at 2933 MHz and not 3200MHz on the computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I checked the specifications of your computer and see that the RAM speed on your computer is 2933MHz and it is working at the correct speed.

Thank you for you reply but, as I mentioned in my 1st post, when I received my PC unit, the modules installed weren't in 2933MHz but in 3200 MHz, even if the PC uses them at 2933 MHz.

So the real question is, if the RAM can only works at 2933 MHz max, why does HP install modules in 3200 MHz in this unit?

I am not sure why HP used the 3200MHz RAM on the computer and there could be many reasons like cost, availability etc. However, as informed earlier the RAM is clocked at 2933MHz.

Well, you're right. RAM is "locked" at 2933 MHZ max cause this CPU (i7-10750H) is limited to 2933 MHz for RAM.

No problem for updating. But it's a shame that HP is blocking ALL the interesting options in the BIOS. You can't even choose a Legacy Mode boot, you don't even have access to XMP to modify RAM speed. Why offer a so-called Gamer notebook when in the end everything is limited in terms of settings?

No worries, I don't want an answer, it was just a rhetorical question.
