zBook 15 G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just received a zBook 15 G2 that I bought on eBay that was supposed to have a Quadro K1100M 2GB but actually had the Quadro K610M 1GB.

The version zBook 15 G2 I have has the i7-4810MQ processor and 24GB of RAM currently installed.

I do CAD/CAM work professionally and my job allows me to have Solidworks, Draftsight, and MasterCAM on my home computer when I'm not at work. I read a lot of threads on upgrading the video cards in zBooks but most were wanting to move towards gaming or VR. I bought this laptop specifically because it had the Quadro series graphics (and I got it for a great price).

I'm pretty confident that upgrading to a Quardo K2100M 2GB video card would be a straight replacement but I can buy the Quadro K3100M 4GB video card for about the same money. The Quadro K3100M appears to be larger than the Quadro K2100M but both look to use the same heatsink mounting in the same location in relation to the plug.

My questions are;

Is the Quadro K2100M 2GB a direct replacement to the Quadro K610M 1GB?

What would it require to replace the current Quadro K610M 1GB with a Quadro K3100M 4GB?

What is the most powerful graphics card that would be a straight forward installation for the zBook 15 G2?

The series have many different machines with FEW options and NVIDIA Quadro K610M is a VALID option. You can use parts on the following list

  • NVIDIA Quadro K1100M NVIDIA N15P-Q1 graphics board part # 785223-001
  • NVIDIA Quadro K610M NVIDIA N15M-Q2 graphics board part # 785225-001
  • NVIDIA Quadro K2100M NVIDIA N15P-Q3 graphics board  part # 785224-001
  • AMD FirePro M5100 graphics board  part # 784470-001
