Hello,

I am experiencing a hardware issue with the internal keyboard of my HP EliteBook 840 G7, and I am trying to identify the exact HP spare part number (SPS / Spare Part Number) in order to replace it.

System details

  • Model: HP EliteBook 840 G7

  • Product Number: 8PZ98AV

  • Serial number: 5CG0441D05
  • The laptop was purchased in Latvia

  • Original keyboard layout: QWERTY with additional Cyrillic legends (EN + Cyrillic)

Problem description
One specific key (“E”) has developed an intermittent input fault (unstable or duplicated input).
The issue is not software-related:

  • It occurs under Windows but is also reproducible outside the OS.

  • The same behavior can be observed directly in the BIOS / UEFI environment.

  • Other keys behave normally.

  • BIOS and firmware updates do not affect the issue.

These tests confirm that the problem is hardware-related and localized to the keyboard assembly itself, not to drivers or operating system settings.

Request

I would appreciate help with:

  1. Identifying the correct HP SPS reference for the original keyboard or top-case assembly installed on this configuration.

  2. Confirming whether an official QWERTY+ Cyrillic (EN/RU) keyboard is available as a replacement spare part, or if only a standard FR layout is supported.

Any guidance from users who have replaced a similar keyboard, or from HP representatives familiar with regional layouts, would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance.

Hi:

This is a peer to peer forum.

We don't work for or represent HP.

I can give you the parts list for the S/N you posted that has the top cover/keyboard part number and description:

HP PartSurfer

Your notebook originally came with this top cover/keyboard:

M07091-251   SPS-TOPCVR W/KB CP+PS BL PVCY Russian

HP sells the part for 148.50, but it is not in stock.

Magasin de pièces HP - Pièces d'ordinateur HP - Pièces d'imprimante HP - Pièces Compaq

The only suggestion I can offer would be to do a search by the HP part number on eBay and see what you can find, or contact HP's authorized parts suppliers who do business in France and see if they have the part you need.

The HP Parts Store | HP Computer Parts | HP Printer Parts | HP parts | hp batteries | SSD | printhea...

If you want the French top cover/keyboard, that part is also listed in the above parts list.

M07091-051  SPS-TOPCVR W/KB CP+PS BL PVCY FR

The French top cover/keyboard is in stock.

i will probably go with a french version. I guess the computer will not see any difference or driver will fix any problem

You're very welcome.

Yes, the French top cover/keyboard should work fine if the keyboard you have now has a hardware issue, and looking at the extensive troubleshooting steps you performed, it probably is.
