The battery life on my HP ENVY x360 os brutally poor, lasting maximum 4 hours. I've only had the laptop for about 3 months and ive had this problem. My battery performance is less than half of the 10 hours advertised which is very disapointing. What can i do about this.

The battery life on my HP ENVY x360 is brutally poor, lasting maximum 4 hours.
I've only had the laptop for about 3 months and I've had this problem.
My battery performance is less than half of the 10 hours advertised which is very disapointing.
What can i do about this?
First, I don't think that 4 hours is "brutally" poor.
Second, what was the battery's performance, 3 months ago? How many hours?
Third, what does HP's advertising claim for "how" you use the battery for those 10 hours?
Certainly, playing "Candy Crush" will drain the battery within a few hours,
while processing E-mail consumes less of the battery's power.
Fourth, is the original HP Warranty still in effect?
If so, you could open a claim against the warranty.

The x360 has generated a lot of criticism as to its actual battery life, given that HP has advertised very long life, up to 12 hours. People are getting somewhere between 2 and 5 hours, based on just a sample of people who are unhappy enough to post here. You have a battery test utility built into the laptop -- tap F2 as you power up to get into the diagnostic screen. Run the diagnostic ,and post the results. If you want to get optimum battery life, you have to turn down screen brightness, but also avoid opening multiple windows and anything graphics intensive.
Does this help?
From an HP web-page:
Estimated Windows 10 battery life based on Windows 10 / MobileMark® 2014 benchmarking.
Battery life will vary depending on various factors including product model, configuration, loaded applications, features, use, wireless functionality, and power management settings.
The maximum capacity of the battery will naturally decrease with time and usage.

I've seen a number of posts (including this one) on the general topic of HP laptop battery life. Somebody points out a big discrepancy between HP's claims and their actual experience; somebody else gives them hints on extending battery life, suggesting this is an "operator error" type problem rather than a product issue.
But there is an actual product issue here.
--------
I recently got an HP Envy 15-ar052sa with an advertised 9h45m battery life. I'm getting 2 hours.
Battery life was my top (but not my only) reason for going with this choice, so you might imagine that I'm pretty annoyed with this state of affairs... and you'd be right.
I'm continually going from place to place looking for power outlets, and yet I see others who never worry about it and get on just fine. I wanted to be one of those guys. But I'm back to looking for power outlets.
I'm not doing anything evil with my laptop... little or no graphics stuff; reading / writing email; researching this topic or that through web searches. Not the sort of thing I would have expected to justify a whopping 5x battery life penalty...
I'm running Ubuntu on this machine. I recently installed tlp (search on "ubuntu tlp" for more info), an advanced power management tool for Linux. There are some early indications that this may be helping: after initial reboot, I started seeing battery life estimates of 4+ hours for the very first time, and the machine does seem to be running a lot cooler.
But now, as I write this note, I'm back under 2 hours again, as if to taunt me.
If I learn anything in my journey, I'll post it here.
